Xcoal’s innovative logistics team integrates rail, barge, port, and vessel chartering to seamlessly deliver coal from all origins to customers around the world.
Our scale as a major exporter from the U.S. and a growing presence outside of the U.S. allows us to creatively manage the logistics chain, while ensuring adequate throughput and capacity at key terminals.
Our logistics team works directly with the railroads and mines, ensuring a fluid movement of trains to the export terminals, allowing the mines to optimize their operations and output.
Our active presence in a variety of export terminals creates optionality in determining where those trains should go.
Xcoal is active in chartering ocean-going bulk carriers to deliver the cargo to our customers’ facilities. We load an average of one vessel every two days, and our logistics capabilities ensure the process is as seamless as possible.
Top Off Operation
To improve the competitiveness of U.S. coal into Southeast Asia, Xcoal pioneered the “top off” operation, in which we sail a self-discharging panamax to a protected harbor outside of the U.S., where it discharges its cargo into a light-loaded cape-size vessel, allowing the full cape-size vessel to achieve maximum freight efficiencies on its voyage into the Pacific Basin.
Through 2021, Xcoal has safely performed 192 top-off operations, totaling 32 million metric tonnes of transferred cargo.
